Americans view corruption as 2nd highest priority in US election | Americans have viewed corruption in the United
States Government as the second-highest priority for the next president, behind creating jobs, according to a new poll. A Gallup poll showed that 87 percent of
the respondents said reducing corruption in government is an "extremely important"
or "very important" priority for the next president, compared with 92 percent
who said the same about creating good jobs. According to The Politico, the survey
revealed that corruption ranked ahead of issues such as reducing the federal budget
deficit (86 percent), dealing with terrorism (86 percent) and continuing social
security and medicare (85 percent). While healthcare remained a top priority for
Obama supporters, with 50 percent characterizing it as "extremely important,"
51 percent of Romney supporters prioritized reducing the federal budget deficit,
the poll noted. However, the survey showed that for both camps, 48 percent viewed
job creation as "extremely important" for the next presidential term, making it
the second-most-important issue. The poll was conducted July 19-22 with a sample
of 1,030 adults and a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
