Defending champion Bindra crashes out of 10m air rifle event | Indian shooter Abhinav Bindra has failed to defend the gold medal he won in the 10m air rifle event at the Beijing Olympics 2008, crashing out in the qualifying
round at the London Olympics, whereas Gagan Narang has entered the finals. Bindra
missed out on the final berth with a score of 594 out of 600, whereas Narang has
still kept Indian hopes of a medal alive by entering the finals with a score of
598 out of 600. The gold medal in this category is given to the shooter with the
maximum aggregate, which includes the scores of the qualification round as well
the final round score. Bindra didn't enter the Olympics as the firm favorite to
win the gold medal, but all eyes were set on him to repeat his Beijing heroics.
India is yet to open its medal tally at the London Games with China leading the
tally comfortably, and U.S. a distant second.
