Miscreants vandalise Mayawati's statue in Lucknow

     Miscreants vandalised a marble statue of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati in Gomti Nagar area in Lucknow on Thursday. Amit Jani, chief of a regional radical outfit Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena, who claimed responsibility for the incident asked the state government to remove statues of Mayawati immediately. "The Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena requests the Akhilesh Yadav Government that the statues of Mayawati in Lucknow and Noida which are a black spot on the state's image should be removed immediately," said Jani. The police has detained three persons in this regard. The miscreants broke the head and damaged the arms of the nearly four-feet high statue of Mayawati. The BSP workers protested at a number of places in the state, including Jhansi , Ambedkar Nagar, Deoria, Muzaffarnagar and Kanpur , following the incident.
