Rupert Murdoch quits from boards of UK newspapers | Media mogul Rupert Murdoch has
quit as News International director, a move that has fuelled rumours that he will
sell-off the UK newspapers. According to The Telegraph, Companies House filings
reveal that Murdoch stepped down from the boards of the NI Group, Times Newspaper
Holdings and News Corp Investments in the UK last week. He has also quit from
some of the media company's subsidiary boards in the United States , the details
of which has not been disclosed by the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
News Corporation said that the resignations were "nothing more than a corporate
housecleaning exercise prior to the company split". News Corporation has already
announced that it would separate its publishing business, which includes The Wall
Street Journal, from its much more profitable media and entertainment business,
forming two distinct, publicly traded companies. Murdoch has repeatedly insisted
that he remains committed to the UK newspaper business. At the time of the announcement,
Murdocuh vowed to remain a "very active chairman" of the publishing business.
