Bolt using special orthopaedic bed to boost Olympic bid | Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt is using a specially
designed orthopaedic bed to ensure he does not suffer a recurrence of back and
hamstring injuries. Bolt arrived at Jamaica's training camp at the University
of Birmingham on Sunday, but after his first two nights there, his coach Glen
Mills raised concerns about his bed. According to The Telegraph, Mills asked for
it to be replaced by a custom-built seven feet mattress. Bolt, the London Games'
leading attraction, withdrew from Thursday's grand prix in Monaco after complaining
of tightness in his hamstring in the aftermath of his defeat by Yohan Blake at
the Jamaican Olympic trials last month. According to the paper, apart from Bolt's
orthopaedic mattress, six other 7 feet beds have been made for the other taller
Jamaican athletes. The Jamaicans are using the University of Birmingham campus,
based in Edgbaston, as their pre-Olympics training camp until next Thursday, when
they will move down to London in time for the opening ceremony. The team consists
of 50 athletes, including current 100m world champion Blake and women's World
200m gold medallist Veronica Campbell-Brown, plus around 25 staff.
