PCB lobbies for resumption of international cricket in Pak during ICC meet

With the hope of reviving international cricket in the country, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has started lobbying during the ongoing ICC chief executives' meeting in Johannesburg. The PCB has once again pinned its hope on Sri Lanka for the resumption of international cricket in Pakistan. According to sources, the PCB wants to invite Sri Lanka for four Twenty20 games, besides asking Kenya to tour Pakistan during the next season. "Sri Lanka is the one team that does not have any international commitments from February to November in 2010. Our efforts would be to invite Sri Lanka for Twenty20 matches. It is up to the Sri Lankan Board to decide about the dates," The News quoted a PCB official, as saying. The PCB is also persuading the Kenyan board to send its under-19 team to Pakistan. "We can arrange such tours at any time and the ICC has got no objections on such exchanges," the official added. The official, who spoke on conditions of anonymity, said the PCB would also bid for the 2014 Twenty20 World Cup. "We would request Bangladesh not to bid for the event as Pakistan is in dire need to host an international event," he said. The Bangladesh Cricket Board, however, has made it clear that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has already decided to host the tournament in Bangladesh way back in 2006, so there was no question of hosting the event in Pakistan.
