Olympic fans `can carry food but can’t eat it inside stadium` | Under new Olympic rules, fans who have “too much” food on them will be
told “you can take it in but you’re banned from eating it!” The crackpot order
is one of dozens put in handbooks given to Olympics volunteers, the Daily Star
reported. In the Games Maker Pocket Guide, a host of “prohibited” items include
guns, bombs, crossbows and all knives, including those for picnics. Bikes, roller
skates and large bags will also be confiscated by security staff. “Restricted”
items include large amounts of food, big umbrellas, flags of non-competing nations,
vuvuzela horns and Frisbees. The guidelines read: “If a restricted item is identified...the
owner will be advised that the item is restricted and, as a condition of entry,
must not be used within any Games.” Someone with a picnic could be told to take
it in but not eat it. The book also warns: “In extreme cases this could result
in...ejection of the spectator.” Much of the training advice is taken up with
health and safety, often written in bizarre marketing speak. The pages include
a crackpot quiz about what to do if someone asks for directions to the loo and
the volunteer cannot work out if they are a man or a woman. One of the incorrect
answers is: “Panic.” Several pages deal with “sustainability” or green matters.
Volunteers are told to “act decisively” when “corrective action is needed to prevent
a sustainability incident”. This means telling spectators to use the right bins.
“You can’t understand half the advice and the bits you can understand are nonsense
rules,” one volunteer said. “The whole thing is a recipe for chaos,” the volunteer
added. |
