Bahrain lawmakers want US envoy out for interfering in country's internal affairs

Two Islamist blocs in Bahrain 's parliament have increased pressure on the foreign ministry to demand a replacement of Thomas Krajeski, the U.S. ambassador. The blocs said that Krajeski, appointed as ambassador one year ago, has been misusing his diplomatic status, and was interfering in Bahrain 's domestic affairs. According to Gulf News, they called on the foreign ministry to send a complaint to Washington 'to put an end to all kinds of interference in the country'. Al Asala, the main Salafist political party in Bahrain , and the Islamic Menbar, an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood, also asked Bahrain 's foreign minister to declare Michael Posner, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labour, persona non-grata in Bahrain . Posner, who early this month had made his fifth visit to the kingdom in 18 months and met 'senior government officials, lawyers, journalists, medical professionals, human rights advocates, and members of several political societies,' was also accused of interfering in Bahrain 's internal affairs by the MPs. A third parliamentary group, the Bahrain Bloc, however, highlighted Bahrain 's good relations with the United States , but insisted that Ambassador Krajeski should not interfere in Bahrain 's affairs. MP Abdul Halim Murad, representing Al Asala, told the media that Krajeski "supported Al Wefaq and attacked Bahrain publicly in the media." "The ambassador has since his appointment been particularly active in putting pressure on Bahrain and on threatening and blackmailing the country. His meetings with the opposition do not stop and the US interference in our affairs has reached unprecedented levels," he said. Murad also criticized the foreign ministry for "allowing the ambassador to move freely in the country and meet whomever he wanted without restrictions or conditions."
