Abu Jundal's arrest an achievement: MEA | The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday
described the arrest of key Mumbai terror attack suspect and Indian Mujahideen
terrorist Abu Jundal as an achievement. "I think you also have to give us a little
bit of scope and space to operate in. And that is that if there are questions
of an operational nature, which involves intelligence issues, we would not expect
us to share this openly in a public platform. These are matters, which are of
a sensitive nature. These are matters, which we operate in a manner, which is
not publicly standing up on trees and shouting about it. So, please understand
that the achievement is of India as a country," said MEA official spokesperson
Syed Akbaruddin. "Which element of the Government of India worked on this and
which element cooperated with which other element is not a matter on which we
need to openly discuss. But that said, we are all happy that this is an achievement
for the country," he added. Akbaruddin further hailed the deportation of Jundal
from Saudi Arabia . "The issues of this nature are new on the relationship between
the two countries, and I would like to share here that our relationship with Saudi
Arabia is expanding in a variety of ways. You would recollect that there was a
visit by our defence minister that again you would say was a path-breaking thing,"
said Akbaruddin. "You would like to characterize the developments recently also
in a similar vein. This is for you to describe and analyse, but what we feel is
that we have always had very cordial relations with Saudi Arabia ," he added.
Jundal was arrested on his arrival from Saudi Arabia at the Indira Gandhi International
(IGI) Airport by Delhi Police on June 21. He is currently in the custody of Special
Cell till July 5. According to reports, Jundal has admitted his active role in
the 26/11 attack, saying he had worked in close tandem with terror mastermind
Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi. He has during his interrogation confessed his role in the
countries worst terror attack and admitted that he was present in the Lashkar-e-Taiba
(LeT) control room in Karachi and was giving direction to the 10 terrorists who
carried out the strike. Jundal took a particular name and his specific task in
executing the 26/11 attack.
