Typhoon fighter jets being kept on scramble to ward off airborne terror attacks during Olympics | Typhoon fighter jets, which have kept on stand by, would be able to reach
Old Trafford in 20 minutes, if terrorists mount an air attack during the Olympics
football matches. A five-mile no-fly zone will be in place around the stadium
with the 1,550mph fighters ready to intercept any planes breaching it. Armed and
undercover police will also deployed at the Manchester United ground, as it sets
to host its first Olympics game on July 26. "The no-fly zones are sensible precautions
along with the enhanced addition of up to four Typhoons at three bases," the Daily
Mirror quoted the UK's Ministry of Defence, as saying, who stressed there was
no specific threat as such. It is understood the planes will be on stand by at
RAF Northolt, in Middlesex, Coningsby, Lincs, and Leuchars, in Fife , and the
no-fly zone will be in place during, before and after each of the matches.
