The funeral procession of slain Ranvir Sena chief Brahmeshwar Singh alias Mukhiya turned violent here on Saturday, as thousands of Singh’s supporters set afire police outposts, private vehicles, attacked police personnel and mediapersons, besides blocking the busy Bailey Road for several hours. The supporters, reportedly pouring from Gaya , Jehanabad, Aurangabad , Arwal and Bhojpur districts, stopped at Bihta, Danapur and Saguna before entering Patna and created arson that continued in the state capital as well. "The supporters pelted stones at vehicles of top police officials and also damaged vehicles of mediapersons," a police official said. The supporters also chased away rebel Janata Dal-United (JD-U) MP Lalan Singh, former Union minister Akhilesh Singh, BJP legislators Anil Kumar Sharma and Usha Vidayarthi when they came to take part in the funeral procession. They also attacked state Bharatiya Janata Party president C.P. Thakur and damaged his vehicle, a police official said. Earlier, security was beefed up across the state to face any unexpected crisis. Apprehending unrest, the concerned authorities had imposed restrictions on assembly and movement of more than five persons in the open at Arrah. S K Bhardwaj, Additional Director General of Police (ADG), said that the government had resolved to impose Section 144 of Indian Penal Code that restricts gathering of more than five persons in public places. The Ranvir Sena chief was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Bihar 's Bhojpur District on Friday morning. Singh was on a morning walk near his house when unidentified assailants shot him. Mukhiya, who was earlier facing life imprisonment in various carnage cases, was released on bail from jail in April this year.
