Australia expels Syrian diplomat after Houla massacre | Australia has reportedly expelled a Syrian diplomat in protest over the
recent massacre in the town of Houla , where over 100 people including at least
32 children were killed. Syrian Charge D'Affairs Jawdat Ali has been given 72
hours to leave the country. Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Bob Carr said
Canberra condemned the atrocities perpetrated against civilians in Houla. "This
massacre of civilians in Haoula is a hideous and brutal crime," The Herald Sun
quoted Carr, as saying. According to the report, Ali was summoned to the Department
of Foreign Affairs in Canberra on Tuesday and told he was being expelled. On Monday,
Ali was told Australia expected the Syrian Government to cease military operations
and abide by the ceasefire brokered by special Envoy Kofi Annan.
