Pak minister accused of human trafficking |
Pakistan’s Minister for Population Welfare Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan
has landed in yet another controversy as now she has been accused of being involved
in human trafficking. According to The Dawn, Awan has been accused of tampering
her National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) records. Awan, reportedly,
represented two boys and one girl as her siblings in order to help them get visas
for Italy . According to NADRA rules no changes can be made in the records of
a particular civilian without personal appearance of a registered citizen. When
enquired about the issue, Awan, however, blamed one of her former staff for the
gaffe. She also rejected reports regarding receiving a cheque for 0.5 million
rupees from a travel agent named Tahir. “One of my staffers is involved in the
scam and I have already registered a complaint against him,” Awan said. This is
not the first time that Awan has been involved in a controversy. She was about
to lose her lose her chair after allegedly using un-parliamentary language against
a PML-Q woman legislator, but managed to come out of the crisis after offering
an apology over the incident. Pakistan People’s Party ( PPP ) insiders said the
party could expel her because this time the issue was more serious from the last
occasion. “This time story is altogether different and if it is proved that she
was directly involved in human trafficking, the party will have no other option
but to expel her,” PPP sources said. |
