US airstrike kills 'most wanted' Al-Qaeda leader in Yemen
Washington: A US drone strike in Yemen has reportedly killed a top Al-Qaeda
leader on the FBI's most wanted list for his role in the 2000 bombing of the USS
Cole warship. According to Yemeni military officials, Fahd al-Quso was one of
two Al-Qaeda operatives who died after an aircraft fired a missile into the Wadi
Rafad valley in the country's southern Shabwa province. Fox News quoted two American
officials, as saying that the CIA carried out the mission after a surveillance
operation by the agency and US military, with authorisation by the Yemeni government.
Al-Quso, 37, was on the FBI's most wanted list, with a 5 million-dollar reward
for information leading to his capture. He was indicted in the US for his role
in the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole in the harbor of Aden , Yemen , in which 17
American sailors were killed and 39 injured. The airstrike came as the US and
Yemen cooperate in a battle against Al Qaeda in southern Yemen.
