Gujarat: Terror threat sparks security alert | Police has stepped up security following intelligence alert over the possibility of militant strikes on key installations and oil refineries based at Jamnagar in Gujarat, and released photographs of the suspected militants. Intelligence Bureau (IB) had recently alarmed the authorities in Jamnagar and capital Gandhinagar, about
possible strikes by suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants. Speaking to the
media, Director General of Police (DGP) Gujrat, Chitranjan Singh said that police,
in collaboration with other departments has taken all possible steps to prevent
any untoward situation. "Whatever intimation we get from the IB regarding possible
threat, we take it very seriously. So, when I got the intimation, I passed the
information to ATS (Anti-Terrorism Squad) Chief Manohar Shashidhar," said Singh.
Large numbers of barricades were placed on roads and security has been on high
alert near oil refineries across Jamnagar , coastal areas, railways stations and
major roads and traffic junctions to keep an eye on any suspicious activity. He
said the police has released photographs of five suspected militants and has shared
them with security forces. " We have shared their photographs with Navy, Indian
Coast Guard, and Air force stations and Army stations in Jamnagar area," Singh
said. Jamnagar, situated in close proximity to Pakistan , is considered to be
on the radar of militants, who aim to dislodge the economic stability of the country
by targeting installations of crucial importance.
