Mamta meets PM, blames Centre for Bengal’s financial mess | West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday minced no words in making her displeasure clear over Centre’s indecision in granting a bailout package to the state, while claiming that West Bengal's financial position cannot
be compared to that of any other state. "We don't have money for any development
projects like roads, BPL cards and others. Other states don't have the same situation
like our state," she said after meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at his 7
Race Course Road residence here. Blaming the erstwhile Left regime for the current
financial dire straits, she demanded a three- year moratorium on interest on debts.
She added that if a financial package were not announced for her state, she would
fight for it "politically.” "We believes some solution will come out, if not,
then we will fight it politically from state," said Mamata. Mamta also blamed
the Centre for not helping the state enough to dispel the financial doldrums.
"I will not speak about the Prime Minister's opinion. I have met the Prime Minister
10 times, Finance Minister 20 times, but nothing has changed," she said. Commenting
on the contentious issue of National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Mamta reiterated her
opposition for the anti- terror agency, saying that the proposed structure would “destroy the
federal structure” if the states.
