CBI questions Tejinder Singh in Tatra case | The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday grilled Lt Gen (retired) Tejinder Singh on bribery charges raised against him by Army Chief General VK Singh. Singh arrived at the CBI headquarters and was reportedly quizzed on certain aspects of the Tatra deal. Sources claim that Singh was also asked to reply to
allegations levelled against him by General VK Singh. General Singh in his statement
to the CBI on April 20 had accused Lt Gen Tejinder Singh of having approached
him in 2010 with a bribe offer of Rs 14 crore to clear a tranche of 600 Tatra
trucks for the Army. Sources in the CBI said that Lt.Gen Tejinder Singh was asked
about why he visited the Army Chief's office on September 22, 2010 when the alleged bribe offer was made to Gen VK Singh. Lt. Gen. Singh had denied all of these allegations
and also filed a contempt case against the Army Chief. On Wednesday, Defence Minister
A.K. Antony said that the government would take stringent action against those
involved in wrongdoings in the army after the CBI completes its probe. "We have
already referred the matter for extensive, comprehensive enquiry by the CBI and
we hope CBI will complete the enquiry as quickly as possible. My understanding
is that the enquiry is going on fast," he told Rajya Sabha members.
