NHS trying to save money by sending patient files to India for processing |
Britain's National Health Services (NHS) is being accused of sending
patient to India for processing to save money. General practitioners (GPs), who
are members of the British medical Association's (BMA) GPs' Committee, have accused
one private/public partnership company of making mistakes while processing data,
The Daily Express reports. They accused NHS Shared Business Services, a joint
venture between the NHS and private firm Steria, which provides back-office support
for GPs and hospitals, of making mistakes. Dr Laurence Buckman, chairman of the
BMA GPs' committee, said: "There have been problems with SBS for a long time.
While trying to establish whether or not patients are still living at their addresses,
some have removed many from their GP's list. This is alarming for both doctors
and patients." SBS processes data of 27 million patients in England . Almost half
its 1,200 workforce is in India.
