Parliament’s budget session resumes today | After a
recess of three weeks the second phase of Parliament’s budget session will resume
on Tuesday as the central government is prepares to get important legislations
such as the Banking Reforms Bill, Insurance Bill, Pension and Lokpal Bill pass
in within this session. The Lok Sabha is expected to discuss the demands for grants
of the ministries of health and family welfare, urban development, commerce and
industry, and home affairs. The Rajya Sabha will have debates on the working of
the ministries of civil aviation, coal, defence, and labour and employment. BJP
has demanded a discussion on defence where it intends to raise several contentious
issues of the recent past related to the ministry. Besides seeking to bring allies
on board, the government is working towards reaching an understanding with the
opposition on crucial bills and smooth conduct of business in the House. Minister
for State in Prime Minister’s Office V Narayanaswamy had earlier in the day assured
that it will table the Lokpal Bill in the Rajya Sabha. The budget session will
conclude on May 22 if the government does not extend its sitting further.
