Ten men, woman publicly caned in Indonesia for 'immorality' under Islamic law | Ten men and a woman have been publicly caned for gambling
and indulging in immoral behavior under the Islamic law that is followed in the conservative Aceh province of Indonesia, according to the authorities. A Prosecutor's
office official said nine people convicted of gambling were caned four to 12 times.
He revealed that two others, a man and woman were caned nine times after being
found in a compromising position by local residents, The Express.co.uk reports.
All of them were beaten in front of dozens of people at a field in Langsa, the
capital of East Aceh district, after being tried by the local Sharia Court . Indonesia
, the world's most populous Muslim nation of 240 million people, has a policy
of secularism, but it allows highly conservative Aceh province to implement a
version of Sharia Islamic law.
