President, Vice President and PM greet nation on Vaisakhi

     President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh have greeted the nation on the occasion of Vaisakhi, Vishu, Puthandu, Mesadi, Vaisakhadi and Bahag Bihu. "On the joyous occasion of Vaisakhi, I extend my warm greetings and best wishes to all fellow citizens and to those in the farming communities across the nation and especially in Punjab ," said President Pail in her message on the occasion of Vaisakhi. "May this celebration strengthen us in our contributions to the nation's prosperity and remind us of the important role of farmers in our economy," she added. President Patil in her message on the occasion of Vishu, Rongali Bihu, Nutan Varsha, Vaiskhadi, Bahag Bihu, Puthandu Pirappu, Naba Barsha and Puthandu Pirappu, which are being celebrated on April 13 and 14, said: "May these festivals inspire us to strive for peace, harmony and amity and work for the unity and progress of our country." Vice President Ansari in his message on the auspicious occasion of Vaisakhi Mesadi, Bihu and Vishu, said these Festivals, signify the traditional New Year and mark the beginning of the harvest season. "These festivities are celebrated with joy and gaiety. They also reaffirm the unity among our citizens and contribute towards nation's progress. May these festivals promote the spirit of amity among us all," he added. The Prime Minister in his message to the nation on the joyous occasion of Vaisakhi, Vishu, Puthandu , Mesadi,Vaisakhadi and Bahag Bihu said that these traditional new year festivals coinciding with the harvest are an occasion to rejoice over the fruits of the hard work of our farmers. "They are not only an occasion to celebrate the harvest but also a time to mark a new beginning. May these festivals usher in prosperity and happiness for all," he added. Vaisakhi, also known as Baisakhi, Vaishakhi, or Vasakhi,is an ancient harvest festival celebrated across the northern Indian subcontinent, especially in the Punjab region.
