Jharkhand HC directs EC to probe RS polls money seizure case | The Jharkhand High Court has directed the Election Commission to initiate a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the circumstances, which led to the countermanding of Rajya Sabha polls in the state. The bench of Chief Justice Prakash Chandra
Tatia and Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh rejected a writ petition praying for quashing
of the decision to countermand Rajya Sabha polling in two seats. Congress leader
and RS candidate Pradeep Kumar had filed the writ petition earlier this week praying
that the decision of the Election Commission should be quashed, as it was unconstitutional
and not within its jurisdiction. The Election Commission had last week countermanded
the Rajya Sabha polls in Jharkhand following the seizure of over Rs. two crore
from the car of a candidate’s relative. The income tax officials had seized cash
of over Rs. two crore from Ranchi ’s Namkum area and arrested two persons along
with cash. According to reports, the car belonged to R. K. Aggarwal’s brother,
who was contesting as an independent candidate in the Rajya Sabha polls from Jharkhand.
