India eyeing upon Canadian sand gas, shale gas technology: Murli Deora

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora on Wednesday said India is considering the possibility of getting some definite technology from Canada in the field of sand gas and shale gas. "We are considering the possibility of getting some definite technology from them in the field of some sand gas and shale gas, so this is what the meeting is on. Tomorrow they are visiting our office, and then the further discussion will be taken care of," said Deora, who met Ed Stelmach, Premier of Canada's Alberta province, during the ongoing Petrotech 2010 exhibition and conference here today. The province of Alberta has some of the world's largest reserves of bitumen, or extremely heavy crude oil, in the Athabasca Oil Sands. "We are here to be the part of this oil show (Petrotech 2010) and meeting these elected officials. We have a number of companies, 14 companies, abroad-based companies who are doing business in India and we want to build on that relationship," said Stelmach, who is in India to promote oil trade. "We have years and years of expertise in shale gas. We are also looking for investment in world sense, to open our business," he added. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha informed about the conversion of their three power plants to enhance the productivity of their oil reserves. "Immediately we can convert three power plants, amounting to 630 megawatts. So then capacity would be up to about 1,000 megawatts," said Premajayantha, while addressing the media persons on the sidelines of the conference here today.
