Wenger hails Arsenal's goal hero Robin van Persie |
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has
hailed his goal hero Robin van Persie whose 78th-minute strike broke the deadlock
against Greek champions Olympiakos. "Thanks to him I don't need to splash cash.
I believe that Robin is now a big name. He is bigger than when he arrived. They
make their names here," Wenger declared. "When you see who wasn't playing tonight,
you see why we are not desperate," The Sun quoted him, as saying. Andrey Arshavin's
goal in 86th minute sealed the table-topping Gunners' second successive Group
H win, which should have been far more convincing. "The boss said at half-time
to be patient and our moment would come. It did. But it was a big relief," Van
Persies aid. "I knew the difference would be in the last 20 minutes," Wenger.
Arshavin was clearly offside when he back-heeled in a Cesc Fabregas cross, which
infuriated Olympiakos chief Zico. "We had three French officials and a French
manager of one of the teams. I don''t think the referee was biased but a goal
was offside," Zico said. |
