Shots fired at Pentagon, second incident in two days: Minor damage, No leads | Shots were fired at the Pentagon, one of the most secured and sensitive buildings on the earth, the headquarters of the US Defence Department, early Tuesday by unknown people, hitting the complex and causing minor damage, according to defence officials. This was also one of the targets of Al-Qaeda militants in 2001 alongwith the World Trade Centre where 125 people manning the country's defence were killed, shattering the American's sense of security for generations to come. The police locked down roads around the Defence Department headquarters building, the world's largest, after Tuesday's shooting took place at 5 am on its southern side. Some shots hit the building, it was found on examination, but it was not known
how many shots or anything about the firearms used. The roads, except the highway,
were reopened after 5:30 am. Nobody was injured. On Monday bullet holes were
found in the windows at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Va.,
30 miles from the Pentagon. The shots were fired at the museum late Saturday or
early Sunday, when no one was inside. Investigators used a crane to inspect the
damage Monday. Because of the height of the holes, police suspect the bullets were
likely fired from a rifle, according to Washington Post. No museum's artifact was
damaged.
