Injured Tuffey also ruled out of Champions Trophy | New Zealand's injury concerns increased on Monday with pace bowler Daryl Tuffey suffering a broken hand on the eve of their must win match against England. Skipper Daniel Vettori revealed that Tuffey ''got a smack to the hand'' at practice and was being monitored. The injury was later confirmed as a broken
bone, ending Tuffey's tournament. Stuff.co.nz quoted team manager Dave Currie
as saying the team had suffered a run of bad luck since arriving in South Africa.
"Particularly for Daryl, who has worked so hard to get back in the team and has
performed so well," Currie told RadioLive. "He broke a bone in the back of his
hand. He needs to get back to New Zealand now to have surgery," Currie added.
Vettori was happy to report that Ian Butler was better after an intestinal infection
and would be available for selection as a logical replacement for Tuffey. Tuffey
is the third squad member unavailable through injury with Jesse Ryder and Jacob
Oram already out of the tournament with groin and hamstring injuries respectively. |
