Punjab's deaf and mute cricket team to play tournament in Malaysia, Singapore | A hearing and speech-impaired cricket team from Punjab will participate in a special tournament to be held in Singapore and Malaysia. Organized by the
Deaf Cricket Federation of Punjab, the tournament will have four matches between
Indian and Sri Lanka . The fifteen-member team along with four officials will
leave for Singapore on Wednesday. "This cricket team is going to Singapore and
Malaysia for playing matches. It is for the first time that a team like this will
be representing India in Singapore and Malaysia ," said Honey Kumar, the caretaker
of the team. He added that since there was no support from the government of Punjab
, they collected funds to sponsor the team for the tournament. The players have
been selected from different parts of the state and trained and supported by the
Federation. Team's sponsor Sanjay Vashisht said that it was the moral responsibility
of the government to encourage such people with special talents. "Like others
these cricketers are normal too. They have the capability of delivering a good
performance on the field. It is because of the people who promoted them and boosted
their confidence that these players are going abroad for a cricket tournament,"
said Vashisht. He added that a fund of 5,00,000 rupees has been collected by the
federation for this tour. |
