CWG : India beats Pakistan by 7-4 in Men’s hockey quarter final match | Indian hockey team cruised into the second Semi Final on Sunday evening, as it registered a convincing win over arch rival Pakistan beating it with 7-4 score
in the Quarter Final match of the ongoing XIX Commonwealth Games. India will play
against England in the second semi-final match of Men’s hockey competition on
Monday. In a do or die pool match against Pakistan , India defeated them this
evening decisively in every sphere of the game. India was on the offensive from
the first whistle and scored two goals in the first five minutes of play. With
steeply-banked seats going right down to the field of play, the cauldron atmosphere
soon came to a boil as India rocketed off to a 4-0 lead within 20 minutes. A fifth
goal early in the second half took India to 5-2 and well on the way to crowning
the evening with a 7-4 final score. Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, was
spotted sitting among ordinary spectators surrounded by discreet security. Rahul
and Congres President Sonia Gandhi were present here at the stadium to support
the Indian hockey team. During half time, Rahul and Congres President Sonia Gandhi
waived to the crowds. Suresh Kalmadi, chairman of the Games' organising committee,
was also present. Meanwhile, the Dhyan Chand Stadium was packed to capacity to
watch the crucial encounter.
