CWG Organising Committee thanks workers for getting JNS track, field ready on time | The Organising Committee Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi has thanked the thousands of workers who helped repair the athletics track and lay 70 lanes of turf across the in-field at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and have it ready in time for the track and field competition that began on Wednesday evening. "We made sure that the schedule of
the blue riband track and field competition was adhered to," said Organising
Committee
Chairman Suresh Kalmadi. He added: "I am glad we dispelled doubts about the
athletics
competition beginning as scheduled since the track needed some repair and the
process of laying the in-field turf was in progress after the opening ceremony.
Our team - with support from all agencies - worked through Tuesday night to ensure
that both the track and the infield were in shape," he said. "Let me reassure
you: We will never compromise on the quality of Field of Play offered to the athlete
in any sport. We will not expose the athlete to risk of injury." Kalmadi said
he was delighted that the track was got ready for competition in time and to the
satisfaction of the IAAF Technical Delegate Bill Bailey. "As Commonwealth Games
Federation President Mr. Michael Fennell pointed out on Wednesday morning, the
repair needed for the track after the opening ceremony is not unique to Delhi
2010," he said.
