Lone female Pakistani shooter competes in Commonwealth Games | Tazeem Akhtar Abbasi, lone female athlete from the Pakistani squad, will be seen in action at the Commonwealth Games in the women's 25 metres pistol event. Speaking to the media persons on Thursday,
the 31-year-old shooter said she is hoping to give her best at the Commonwealth
Games and she will inspire more female athletes to take up sports in her country.
"I am the lone female athlete in the Pakistani contingent. I am feeling very good
and I am very proud to be here. The experience so far has been very good. My
target
is to give my best in the games," said Abbasi. She would be competing in the
women's
25-metres pistols event on Friday. Further she mentioned India is like home to
her and the experience have been most memorable. She praised the Commonwealth
Games Village and the arrangements made for the athletes. Rizvi Khan, an official
of the Pakistani contingent too agreed with Tazeem Akhtar Abbasi. He admitted
the warm reception has been overwhelming and the presence of this female shooter
has prompted more women athletes to take up sports. "When a participant goes with
the contingent to the stadium, the overall feeling is different. On top of that,
when you get an overwhelming response, the feeling cannot be expressed in simple
words," said Khan.
