Kalmadi assures to deliver best ever Commonwealth Games

The Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chairman, Suresh Kalmadi, on Tuesday expressing confidence that India would deliver the best Commonwealth Games ever, said the world would take note of India once the Delhi 2010 Games begins on October 3. Addressing the staff and volunteers at the Organising Committee headquarters here, Kalmadi praised everyone for the great job they were doing and thanked them for their continued support despite the recent negative media reports. "We are on the threshold of making history. We will come out winners. The clock is ticking and there are 29 days to go for the Games Village to open and 47 days for the Games to begin," said Kalmadi, urging all members not to lose focus. "I am proud of all of you. You all are working as a team from the day you have joined. There have been distractions, which are demoralizing. But we should not allow them to hamper our spirits as the nation's pride is at stake. Our conscience is clear and we have nothing to hide," he added. Further recapitulating Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's speech, where he asked the countrymen to treat the 2010 Games as a national festival, Kalmadi said Dr Singh has extended all possible support to the Organising Committee. "Yesterday the Prime Minister called the Commonwealth Games a national festival. At a meeting at his house, Dr Manmohan Singh extended all possible support to the Organising Committee along with all his key ministers including Jaipal Reddy, M.S. Gill and Sheila Dikshit," said Kalmadi. "The Group of Ministers (GoM), which was always there would continue to support us," he added. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Sunday asked the countrymen to treat the 2010 Commonwealth Games as a national festival, and said the upcoming mega event to be held in the month of October will be a success. "The Commonwealth Games will start in Delhi after about one and a half months. I am convinced that all our countrymen will treat the Games as a national festival and will leave no stone unturned to make them a success," said Dr Singh addressing the nation from the ramparts of the majestic Red Fort on the 64th Independence Day. "The successful organisation of Commonwealth Games would be another signal to the world that India is rapidly marching ahead with confidence," he added.
