Dumped and fuming Beckham vows to fight for his place in England squad | A dumped and furious David Beckham last night vowed
to fight his way back into the England football squad, shortly after team manager Fabio Capello said in a television interview that it was time for the winger to
hang up his boots and let a younger player in. The Italian later added that the
35-year-old former captain could play in a farewell friendly in November. Becks,
nicknamed Goldenballs, vowed: "I will fight my way back into the England team."
The LA Galaxy star was left feeling "disrespected, disappointed and dismayed"
by the way he was axed on TV, The Sun reports. Beckham - capped 115 times in 14
years - only learned he was being dropped after Capello's telly interview and
later watched it at home in Los Angeles. A friend said: "The fact is there should
have been a call from the manager. Becks will not go quietly into the night."
In an interview recorded on Monday and shown before Wednesday night's 2-1 Wembley
win against Hungary, Capello laughed as he said Becks was "a little too old" for
the squad. Quizzed after the match he added: "David knows that he has no future
with the national team because we have to change. He will play one friendly to
say bye bye." Becks was horrified to see the interview - and wife Victoria was
said to be "disgusted". Fellow football stars and veterans said that Capello should
have informed him personally and earned some brownie points. |
