Nine prisoners break out of Uttar Pradesh jail | Nine prisoners, including seven serving life terms, fled
from Uttar Pradesh's Meerut city jail after scaling the boundary wall on Tuesday.
The jail warden found a ladder at around 6 a.m. that the prisoners used to jump
the 15-feet-long boundary wall of the jail. District Magistrate Bhuvaneshwar Singh
said that out of the nine, seven inmates were sentenced to life imprisonment,
while two were under trials. "Total nine prisoners jail broke out, in which seven
were convicted to life imprisonment and two were under trial. All the officials,
who were doing duty during night and early morning are suspended, and reports
filed for officials serving high designation," said Singh. Senior officials including
Deputy Inspector General of Police and the Divisional Commissioner have reached
the jail and a manhunt launched to nab the prisoners. Police Commissioner Shravan
Kumar Sharma said a magisterial inquiry has been ordered for the incident. "It's
a big incident and three-level inquiries are going on for it. District Magistrate
has been asked to make essential inquiries. Apart from this, other jail authorities
are liable for case inquiry and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) is looking for
the criminal records of the accused," said Sharma. |
