Illegal mining issue: Reddy brothers meet Swaraj, Yeddyurappa

Amidst allegations of illegal mining, Karnataka Ministers G Janardhan Reddy and G Karuanakar Reddy met senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj and Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa here on Sunday. The meeting between the Reddy brothers and the Chief Minister at the Karnataka Bhawan here came a day after Yeddyurappa held a series of meetings with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, senior BJP leaders L K Advani and Nitin Gadkari. "We have explained in detail to Swaraj and she has come to know about every detail and what the Congress strategy is," said Karnataka Tourism Minister Janardhan Reddy after the meeting. "There is nothing in the allegations levelled by Congress. Congress has lost its image. For nothing, they are fighting. Whatever the Congress strategy is, it will fail. We are all fighting together against Congress. We are all honest BJP workers," he added. Janardhan Reddy further said that he and his brother Karunakar Reddy would hold a press conference in Bangalore on Monday to respond to allegations by Congress against them. Yeddyurappa is under mounting pressure to sack the Reddy brothers and save his Government in Karnataka. It has been reported that Sushma Swaraj may indicate the Reddy brothers that it would be better for them to resign on their own and await the report of the Lokayukta on the issue. The Reddy brothers are facing allegations of illegal mining of iron ores by encroaching upon a large chunk of forestland in the area causing huge damage to the environment.
