'Commonwealth Express' reaches Chandigarh | The Commonwealth Express, an exhibition train highlighting various aspects of the 2010 Commonwealth Games arrived here on Friday. The special train is an initiative
to promote the Commonwealth Games, which would be hosted in New Delhi. The train
has 11 coaches, five devoted to showcasing the country's sporting history and
the laurels won by various sportsperson, while the other six coaches exhibit India's
achievements in information technology (IT). "Not just sport lovers, but those
who are not much into sports will feel like taking up some sort of sports. This
exhibition is very nice," said Anju, a badminton coach. Flagged off from New Delhi
on June 24, the train is scheduled to make over 50 stops all over India, before
returning to the national capital on October 2, just before the Games. "This exhibition
is very good. It gives information about all games, their history, which all stadiums
will host the Commonwealth Games," said Shivam, a student. The Commonwealth Games
2010, to be held from October 3 to 14, will be India's biggest sporting event
since the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi. |
