Fuel prices hike: Andhra Pradesh witnesses protest by Opposition parties | All Opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday staged protest rallies at various parts of the state against the hike in the price of petroleum products. The rally came despite Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah's assurance
to take a decision on reducing sales tax of petroleum products in the state. The
Andhra Pradesh Government is expected to earn an additional Rs. 540 crore in the
form of sales tax as due to hike in petroleum products. Rossaih said the government
would draw plans to spend this money on public welfare. Meanwhile, strongly condemning
the Centre's decision to increase fuel prices, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers
organized a protest outside the Chief Rationing Officer's office here. Praja Rajyam
Party (PR) chief and cine star Chiranjeevi, participated in a padayatra from Tummalapally
auditorium to Sub-Collector's office after riding a bullock cart fitted with lorry
steering for some distance in Vijayawada. Slamming the government for increasing
the fuel prices, Communist Party of India burnt the effigy of Central government.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held demonstrations at various places in the
state. In Medak district, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) staged a protest rally
against the hike. |
