NHRC serves notice to Delhi Police Commissioner in woman stripping incident

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notice to the Delhi Police Commissioner seeking a report within four weeks from the date of the receipt in the reported incident of a woman being forcibly stripped at a Delhi Police post and asked to have sex with her 12-year-old son. “The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports alleging that a woman was forcibly stripped at a Delhi Police post and asked by the cops to have sex with her 12-year-old son,” said an NHRC released today. The reports were carried on the June 9, 2010. The incident was reported to have happened on the May 21 in Rajouri Garden police post in the West Delhi. It was alleged that Raghu (12) and Ramesh (10) sons of Mukesh Jha (45) were detained by the police on the charges of theft. In this connection, the police reportedly also ransacked the house of Mukesh in the Mayapuri area and thrashed him along with his family members, including his 30-year-old wife. They were taken to the police post, where one of the constables allegedly asked her to have sex with him, if she could not do so with her 12-year-old son. “Considering the contents of media reports as distressing, the Commission observed on the June 14, 2010 that if these are true then it is a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victims, and issued notices to the Delhi Police Commissioner calling for a report within four weeks from the date of the receipt,” said the NHRC statement.
