Moily terms former CBI officer's allegations in Bhopal gas tragedy as 'irresponsible' | Union Law and Justice Minister M Veerappa Moily on Tuesday rubbished comments of a former CBI officer, who claimed to have received a letter against pursuing the extradition proceedings in Bhopal gas tragedy case, by terming them as 'irresponsible and unjustified'. Reacting to the allegation
of the former CBI officer B.R.Lal on Ministry of External Affairs, Moily said:
"After retirement, many people can give many statements. I don't have any comments
on that. And any responsible officer taking an excuse that he has been interfered
with is absolutely an irresponsible statement and it is not done at all. And you
know not at this point of time and at this distance of time he has to realise
this kind of big enlightenment taking place with an investigative officer. I think
we need to do something to deal with such people who will not discharge their
duties, failed to discharge their duty and after retirement try to become heroes
or martyrs of the situation." Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohan P Tiwari in Bhopal
convicted the seven accused on charges of causing death due to negligence under
Section 304 (a), and sentenced them to an imprisonment of two years. It may be
recalled soon after the court awarded the jail term, a magistrate court in Bhopal
granted bail to the seven former top executives Union Carbide. The accused were
instantly released on submission of a surety of rupees 25000 by the trial court.
This judgement invited wrath of leaders of almost all parties and even the Union
Law Minister Moily is reported to have said that it was an instance of delayed
justice. |
