Pak will act against Saeed in accordance with evidence: Gilani | | Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that
action against Jamaat-ud-Dawa Chief Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, the alleged mastermind of the November 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, would only be taken based on evidence
gathered against him. Interacting with media persons on the sidelines of a program
in Multan, Gilani said action against Saeed would be taken in accordance with
the evidence, which clearly implies that Islamabad is unlikely to take any substantial
action against the terrorist leader. Gilani's statement comes a day after Home
Minister P. Chidambaram said that all evidence against Saeed was present on Pakistani
soil itself. Talking to media persons after flagging-off a new super fast train
in Chennai on Monday, Chidambaram, while responding to reports regarding Saeed
being put under house arrest, said the Pakistan must interrogate Saeed regarding
his role in the 26/11 carnage. "Even if it is a face saving technique, I have
no objection. My demand is that now that he has been arrested he should be interrogated
for his role in the 26/11 incidents. Evidence is in Pakistani soil. When Pakistan
says give us evidence, evidence is not on Indian soil, all the evidence against
Hafiz Saeed is on Pakistani soil," Chidambaram said. |
