Indo-Pak foreign secretaries to resume dialogue on Sept 26 | Foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan will meet on September 26 followed by foreign ministers' level talks on September 27 in New York, resuming the dialogue process on the sidelines of UN General Assembly session. Pakistan Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir
on Monday confirmed that a meeting with his Indian counterpart Nirupama Rao would
be held on September 26 in New York. Bashir, who will leave for New York on September
24, said the meeting between the two foreign secretaries would be in accordance
with the decisions and joint statement issued following the meeting of two prime
ministers at Sharm el Shaikh. The foreign ministers of India and Pakistan will
then meet on September 27 to discuss the agenda being prepared by the two foreign
secretaries, said Bashir. "The meetings between foreign secretaries and foreign
ministers of Pakistan and India in New York are the follow up of the summit meeting
held in Sharm el Sheikh," The News quoted Bashir, as saying. He hoped that these
meeting would pave the way to formal launch the already stalled peace process
between the two countries. Referring to the agenda of the meetings of the foreign
ministers, Bashir said, "All the issues between the two countries including terrorism
and the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir will be discussed in these meetings." |
