Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday slammed Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh by contending that he has been weak in tackling key issues of inflation, Maoist threat, and terrorism. Reacting to the formal press conference addressed by the Prime Minister on the occasion of completion of one year of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government in its second term, the BJP chose to slam Dr. Singh for what they termed as 'indecisiveness' on key issues plaguing the nation. Senior BJP leader and the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley, said the Congress-led UPA Government is celebrating while the common man is struggling with skyrocketing prices of essential commodities. He said the Prime Minister should have revealed the plans with which he intends to tackle inflation. "The nation wanted to hear from the Prime Minister, what steps he has taken or will take to curtail inflation. The nation did not wish him to report the false hopes that he has repeated the whole of last year," said Jaitley. On the issue of the ever-increasing threat of Maoist violence, Jaitley remarked that Dr. Singh had conveniently "swept it under the carpet". "There is a conflict of opinion within the government. There are two ways to solve it (Maoist menace). We want the Prime Minister to clarify which way does he intend to follow. We would consider his opinion to be the policy of the ruling government of India," said Jaitley. Raising the issue of cross-border terrorism, Jaitley said while Dr. Singh continued to indulge in peace talks, Pakistan remained a hub of terrorism and that its government was not doing enough to tackle the menace. The BJP leader also criticised Dr Singh for 'not taking a decisive stand' on several critical issues in his press conference.
