Leaders of all parties pay rich tributes to Rajiv Gandhi | Leaders of all political parties paid floral tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in Tamil Nadu's
Sriperumbudur on his 19th death anniversary on Friday. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister
M Karunanidhi led the state in paying homage to Rajiv Gandhi. Congress leaders
also paid tributes at his memorial. Talking to the reporters, K V Thangabalu,
president of Tamil Nadu Congress committee, said his party would try to work for
realising the dreams of Rajiv Gandhi. "Yes certainly it is the day we observe,
the congressmen all over India and the government at the centre and the states
and all governments, all are observing the day," Thangabalu said. "It is important
that terrorism is one of the greatest menace and it is the endeavour of the government,
and the party and party chief Sonia Gandhi, we are embarking upon to see that
Rajiv Gandhi's dream comes true," he added. To commemorate the day, Thangabalu
had organized a blood donation camp in the city. Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated
on May 21, 1991, by a Sri Lankan Tamil suicide bomber in revenge for his decision
to send Indian troops to the island nation in 1987. |
