Congress, BJP supporters clash over effigy burning in Gwalior | Supporters of Congress party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday clashed with each other over burning of an effigy of Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia. BJP supporters wanted to burn Jyotiraditya’s effigy to protest against the rocketing
prices of food grains and other basic commodities. A scuffle broke out when Congress
supporters objected to the burning of the effigy of their leader. “Congress party
didn't protest against any demonstration, but we were against the effigy burning
of our party's leader. Our party doesn't believe in burning effigies of individuals.
This practise was started by BJP,” said Prakash Khandelwal , District President
of Congress Party. “Today, we came to protest against the effigy burning of our
leader, but not any demonstration. They can carry on with their demonstration.
But we will protest against the effigy burning,” he added. Police had to baton-charge
to bring the situation under control, during which some of the supporters were
injured. The injured were taken to a local hospital. According to reports, some
Congress supporters were arrested after the clash. |
