Biopic on Nelson Mandela's wife facing legal threat

A new biopic on Nelson Mandela's wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela is facing legal threat. Madikizela-Mandela's lawyers have written to the producer of the film, Andre Pieterse, saying that she "would like to see the script and approve" before production begins. The letter also contained the threat "of action that could stop production." "A lawyer's letter came some weeks ago," the BBC News quoted Pieterse as saying. He said: "It was a benign letter and yet it contained the threat of an indictment, an interdict that could stop the picture. If the film maligns her in any way then there will be a legal basis for her to take action." However, Pieterse said he and director Darrell Roodt have decided the film would be based on a "well researched" screenplay "without any influence from any of the main characters". Madikizela-Mandela became popular during South Africa 's apartheid era. She led the African National Congress (ANC) and campaigned for the release of her husband, who spent 27 years in jail. Sources in the Union Home Ministry on Monday feared that the casualties of the IED blast in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada is likely to go high as the rescue and relief operations have been hampered due to bad light. Security forces have launched a major rescue operation. On Monday evening in one of the worst attack on civilians the Maoists blew up a private bus killing over 30 people. The bus-CG17 SS 9295 was carrying 20 special police officers (SPO) and over 30 civilians. The SPOs were on their way to participate in a special recruitment drive. The latest blast incident has taken place a day after the Maoists called for a 48 hour shutdown in five states-Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh. The sources said the attack might have been a pre -planned one. Reportedly, the Maoists also fired on the bus after the blast to ensure that nobody stays alive.
