Nepal Maoists decide to unilaterally declare Constitution on May 29 | The Unified CPN (Maoist) has decided to promulgate a Constitution drafted by the party from the streets
on May 29. A politburo meeting of the party held at party headquarters on Sunday decided to promulgate its Constitution unilaterally if a consensus is not forged
before the Constituent Assembly's (CA) term expires. They decided not to vote
for CA term extension if new government under Maoist-leadership is not formed.
They also decided to cancel the nationwide protests scheduled for May 25 and a
cadres training scheduled for May 18. "As it is obvious that Constituent Assembly
cannot come up with the new Constitution on time," Kanitipur quoted Maoist Spokesperson
Dinanath Sharma as, saying. "Decision has been taken to make public the people's
federal republic constitution," he said. The Maoists have put forth the resignation
of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and formation of a national unity government
under their leadership as preconditions for the CA extension. They have said that
there is no essence of the term extension if their preconditions are not met notwithstanding
the fact that Constitution drafting has not been completed. Meanwhile, the Nepali
Congress and CPN-UML have dismissed the Maoist conditions saying that they are
unnatural and undemocratic.
Sources in the Union Home Ministry on Monday feared that the casualties of the IED blast in
Chhattisgarh's Dantewada is likely to go high as the rescue and relief operations have been
hampered due to bad light. Security forces have launched a major rescue operation. On
Monday evening in one of the worst attack on civilians the Maoists blew up a private bus
killing over 30 people. The bus was on its way from Dantewada to Sukma when the incident
took place near Chingawaram, over nine kilometers from Sukma. The bus-CG17 SS 9295
was carrying 20 special police officers (SPO) and over 30 civilians. The SPOs were
on their way to participate in a special recruitment drive. The latest blast incident
has taken place a day after the Maoists called for a 48 hour shutdown in five
states-Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh. The sources
said the attack might have been a pre -planned one. Reportedly, the Maoists also
fired on the bus after the blast to ensure that nobody stays alive. |
