Police arrest one person in Anoushka’s laptop-hacking case | A Delhi Police team has arrested a Mumbai-based
man suspected of gaining access to photographs of Sitarist and legendary musician Pandit Ravi Shankar's daughter, Anoushka Shankar. Anoushka is stated to have
stored her photographs in her laptop, which was sent to a service centre a few
months ago. The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested the man following investigations
in Mumbai after Pt. Ravi Shankar approached police last month complaining about
the harassment meted out to his daughter. The identity of the arrested man has
not been revealed. Last week, Police registered a case under Indian Penal Code
(IPC)’s Section 386, related to extortion by putting in fear of death or hurt
and which provides for a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison. Pt. Ravi Shankar
in his complaint told the police that Anoushka had given her laptop to a service
centre in South Delhi in February. The man allegedly sent a series of e-mails
to 28-year-old Anoushka, asking money in lieu of not making public her photographs.
He allegedly demanded 100,000 dollars in one of the e-mails. |
