CRPF personnel gun down Maoist in Chhattisgarh | The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel gunned down a suspected Maoist during a combing operation in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur District on Tuesday.
The rebel was killed in an encounter between the CRPF and a Maoist group. The killed
Maoist was later identified as Rattu Ram Korsa hailing from Bijapur district here.
Later, Vedvrat Sirmour, Additional Superintendent of Police, Bijapur narrated
the sequence of events leading to the Maoist's death and also about the recovery
considerable amount of arms and allied items. "CRPF Battalion number 80 had left
yesterday night from Pedi Pada camp. Between Kodiyar Para and Kadel, the Maoists
attacked the CRPF. Later on, in the search operation, a Maoist in uniform, armour,
pistol and detonators were found," said Vedvrat Sirmour. Earlier on Monday, Chhattisgarh
Police arrested 13 suspected Maoist rebels from a couple of villages and nearby
forest areas here. Chhattisgarh is one of the States badly affected by Maoist
violence. The estimated 20,000 Maoist combatants operate across a 'red corridor'
stretching from the Nepal border to West Bengal and through central India into
Andhra Pradesh. |
