Brit football fans to watch 2010 football World Cup on 3D screens | British fans who can't make it to South Africa for
2010 football World Cup can catch all England matches on eye-popping digital 3D
screens. Cineworld are planning to roll out LIVE 3D coverage of World Cup matches
from next year's tournament in selected cinemas, News Of The World reports. "For
all the fans who can't make it out to South Africa, this will be the next best
thing to being there. With the right camera angles it could look as if the players
are kicking the ball out into the middle of the audience," an insider says. The
movie chain, which owns 75 UK multiplexes, is experimenting with brand new digital
projectors that were installed in its cinemas last January, the report says. They
boast images twice as sharp as a high-definition Blu-ray disc and can broadcast
live TV footage in 3D - provided viewers wear the standard-issue bulky 3D glasses,
it adds. The technology needed to make this work fully is still in development
but it will be operational by the time tournament begins on June 11 next year.
"How would you rather see England lift the World Cup. In your front room on a
poxy little screen at home or with a huge group of like-minded fans at the cinema.
It's an exciting advance in how fans will watch sport," a source said. Cineworld
is also planning to follow football World Cup's success with live F1 motor racing
and pop concerts. |
