US to give India direct access to Headley | Union Home Secretary G K Pillai on Friday said that US has assured that Indian investigators would get direct access to Lashkar operative David Headley very soon. Presenting the April month report card of the Union Home Ministry,
Pillai said: "We have been assured that Indian investigators would be given direct
access to David Headley." "This is a signal achievement and should put an end
to the doubts expressed in certain quarters," he added. A team led by Solicitor
General Gopal Subramanium visited USA from April 24 to 27 to discuss modalities
of gaining access to Headley. During his visit Subramanium held discussions with
the US Attorney General Eric Holder on getting direct access to Headley. The successful
meeting hinted that there would be the best possible cooperation in fight against
terrorism. Earlier, the U.S. had stated that it was just a "matter of working
out modalities" before Indian investigators get access to Headley. Interacting
with Indian journalists at Thimphu, U.S. Secretary of State for South and Central
Asian Affairs Robert Blake hinted that negotiations are on in this regard. |
