Gill inaugurates wrestling stadium in New Delhi | Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports MS Gill, on Sunday inaugurated the newly constructed wrestling stadium in the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex here. It will
serve as one of the venues of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in national capital.
The wrestling stadium will serve as the wrestling and boxing venue of the Commonwealth
Games in October. "I am very happy with this stadium, 120 crore (Rs 1.2 billion)
worth, covered, air conditioned, seating for 6,000-8,000 people, every facility
is there. It's really an advanced stadium. I doubt that many countries would have
it. I trust we are going to have a test event in a week's time," said M S Gill,
India 's federal Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports. The 6,000-seater state-of-the-art
venue has been built at a cost of Rs 1.2 billion and has a built-up area of 22,350
square metres. The stadium is equipped with environment-friendly features like
thermal insulation of the entire roof, gypsum board partitions and wall paneling,
external glazing with low energy tinted glasses and energy-efficient lighting
fixtures. The entire stadium will be under electronic surveillance through fixed
and PTZ (Pan, Tilt, and Zoom) cameras connected to a central control room, which
will have an integrated network for connecting various facilities, to meet the
operational requirement of the Games. |
